After an intra-day swing of 202 points Sensex ends flat.
In a spiritless trading session, the market displayed a range-bound movement with select bouts of buying and selling.
After opening 75 points lower than its previous close of 10,076, Sensex dipped further to touch an intra-day low of 9,987. In mid-session, the market remained stable, however sentiment turned bullish towards the end of session and Sensex rose to the high of the day (10,189). However on the back of selective stocks the index ended on a flat note at 10,100, up only 23 points. Nifty advanced 17 points to close at 3,078. The market breadth was positive. Of the 2,599 stocks traded on the BSE, 1,482 stocks rose whereas 1,033 stocks fell. The remaining 84 stocks ended unchanged.
Among sectoral indices, BSE Realty flared up 10.57%, BSE Auto rose 1.79% and BSE CD moved up 1.59%. The remaining indices except BSE Oil & Gas gained 0.08-1% each.
Among gainers, DLF flared up 10.80% at Rs307.35, JP Associates moved up 6% at Rs89.20, Mahindra & Mahindra jumped 4.23% at Rs321.20, Sterlite Industries gained 3.62% at Rs280.70, Hindustan Unilever scaled up by 3.61% at Rs265.45, Tata Motors was up 3.28% at Rs179.30, Reliance Infrastructure gained 3.08% at Rs179.30 and Tata Steel advanced up 3.04% at Rs228.85. Reliance Communications, Maruti Suzuki India, Bharti Airtel, Tata Power, Larsen & Toubro and Infosys Technologies reported steady gains. However, Satyam Computer Services dropped 3.87% at Rs162.80, ONGC shed 3.23% at Rs709.15 and ACC dipped 2.33% at Rs496.30. HDFC, ITC and HDFC Bank were marginally down.
Over 4.24 crore shares of Unitech changed hands followed by Reliance Natural Resources (2.83 crore shares), Suzlon Energy (2.50 crore shares) and GVK Power & Infrastructure (2.02 crore shares).
