 Market Commentary
Market recovers on late buying
After correcting in morning, buoyancy in heavyweights, banking and auto stocks lifted the Sensex to touch the day's high of 13937.
The market witnessed a correction in opening trades, as weak Asian markets, and flat US and European indices dampened the sentiment. Although the Sensex resumed
on a negative note at 13664, the market soon pared the loss to turn positive. As trading progressed, the Sensex slipped significantly in the afternoon with selling in heavyweight, consumer durable and auto stocks dragging the index to the day's low of 13611. However, recovery in capital goods, banking and health care stocks towards the close lifted the Sensex to positive territory to touch the intra-day high of 13937. The Sensex finally ended the session 151 points higher at 13887, while Nifty added 28 points to close at 4239.

Of the 13 sectoral indices on the BSE, nine posted gains while four ended lower. The BSE CG led the upsurge with gains of 2.90% at 11108 followed by the BSE Bankex (up 1.80% at 7828) and the BSE HC index (up 1.77% at 3377). The BSE CD, The BSE Auto, the BSE Reality and the BSE index closed in negative territory. The market breadth was positive. Of the 2,783 scrips traded on the BSE, 2,139 stocks advanced, 595 stocks declined and 49 stocks ended unchanged.

Out of the 30 Sensex stocks, 15 managed to end in the green while 15 stocks ended with losses. Larsen & Toubro was the lead gainer and soared 4.73% at Rs1,301. ICICI Bank advanced 4.54% at Rs702.80, Reliance Industries moved up by 3.13% at Rs2,183.10, National Thermal Power Corporation jumped 1.93% at Rs216.35, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries shot up by 1.59% at Rs1289.75, Infosys Technologies added 1.11% at Rs1519.40 and HDFC rose 1.09% at Rs2122.15. State Bank of India, Reliance Infrastructure and Bharat Heavy Electricals gained marginally. Among laggards, Sterlite Industries dropped 4.32% at Rs507.95, Mahindra & Mahindra shed 3.57% at Rs629.85, Tata Motors declined by 3.29% at Rs345.70 and ONGC lost 2.74% at Rs1045.30.

Over 6.94 crore shares of Cals Refineries changed hands on the BSE followed by Satyam Computer Services (5.57 crore shares), Kaashyap Technologies (2.38 crore shares), Firstsource Solutions (2 crore shares) and Unitech (1.70 crore shares).
