Market slips below 15600
All-pervasive selling pressure led by realty stocks saw the Sensex shed 390 points.
The market cooled off after having gains for the last session. The Sensex opened on a negative note at 15881, down 20 points, tracking mix Asian indices. The index  
pared some losses as trading progressed. The Sensex registered its high of 15970 for the day on buying in selected stocks. However, the market gave up its gains due to profit booking in heavyweights, auto, realty and fast moving consumer goods (FCMG) stocks. The market witnessed panic selling towards the close and touched the day's low of 15443. The Sensex finally closed the session by shedding 390 points at 15514, while Nifty ended the session down 109 points at 4586.

The broader market turned weak. Of the 2,767 stocks traded on the BSE, 1,614 stocks declined, 1,080 stocks advanced and 73 stocks ended unchanged. All the 13 sectoral indices ended in negative territory. The BSE Auto index dropped 4.43%, the BSE Realty index shed 3.65%, the BSE Bankex lost 3.29% and the BSE Metal index was down 3.05%.

Among major losers, Tata Motors dropped 6.93% to Rs418.30, Hindalco Industries slumped 6.50% to Rs103.65, JP Associates shed 5.53% to trade at Rs230.75, Maruti Suzuki India lost 5.34% to Rs1,364, Hero Honda declined 5.25% to Rs1,519.35 and ACC slipped nearly 4.94% to Rs879.20. Sterlite Industries, Mahindra & Mahindra, ITC, Tata Steel, Hindustan Unilever, Grasim Industries, ONGC, Reliance Communications and Reliance Infrastructure were down by 3-4% each. However, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries notched up gains of 1.53% to Rs1,200.40 and Wipro moved up by 0.04% to Rs498.25.

Auto stocks came under sharp selling pressure. Escorts tumbled by 7.80% to Rs71.55, Tata Motors slipped 7.80% to Rs71.55, Tata Motors slumped 6.93% to Rs418.30, Ashok Leyland fell 6.25% to Rs33.75, Amtek Auto lost 4.41% to Rs140.80, Cummins declined 4.02% to Rs283.85, Exide shed 3.2% to trade at Rs83.80 and Bharat Forge was down 3.25% to Rs233.60.

Over 2.97 crore shares of Ispat Industries changed hands on the BSE followed by Firstsource Solutions (2.02 crore shares), Unitech (1.93 crore shares), Mahindra Satyam (1.67 crore shares) and Alok Industries (1.17 crore shares).
