 Market Commentary
Market tad up for fourth day
Exhibiting sharp volatility intra-day, Sensex adds marginal 60 points to its over 700 points gains in last three days.
After charting up for the last three sessions, the Sensex opened lower today on mixed global cues (Dow was up while Asian markets were down). In morning, the bench mark
picked some momentum but after some volatile moves it slipped into the red on heavy selling in realty stocks. The day's low was 16045, down 79 points from the previous close. In afternoon the Sensex move into green as buying resumed. It gained strength on the back of solid buying in oil & gas stocks and touched the intra-day high of 16216, up 60 points from the previous close. But towards the end of the day, lack of buying interest caused the market to pare all the gains with the Sensex closing measly 60 points up at 16184. Nifty closed 9 points higher at 4814.

Of the 2,882 stocks on the BSE, 1,530 stocks declined, whereas 1,280 stocks advances. Seventy two stocks ended unchanged. Most of the sectoral indices ended in the green. Except oil and gas that was up 2.36% and reality that was down 1.65%, other 11 sectors were either marginally up or down.

Of the 30 Sensex stocks, 17 declined and 13 advanced. Reliance Industries soared 4.54% to Rs2,169.35. Hindalco Industries advanced 4.14% to Rs119.60, JP Associates jumped 1.88% to Rs233.55 and HDFC shot up by 1.32% to Rs2,528.10. HDFC BANK, Tata Consultancy Services, Sterlite Industries, Tata Power, Tata Steel and ACC closed higher. Among laggards DLF tumbled 3.51% to Rs420.40, Bharti Airtel shed 3.36% at Rs409.85, Hero Honda Motors declined by 2.44% to Rs1,668.55, Wipro lost 1.75% to Rs542.25, Reliance Communications moved down 1.67% to Rs299.45 and Reliance Infrastructure lost 1.11% to Rs1,190.95.
